About Strand C
Installation, deployment and maintenance form a major component to the cost of energy from marine devices. Strand C will assist tidal and wave device developers to optimise their practices in relation to these aspects later stage marine energy development. The Carbon Trust is now inviting device developers to apply to this technical competition.
The competition seeks wave and tidal stream energy devices:
- That are at a stage nearing commercialisation;
- At or near full scale prototype testing stage for which detailed engineering designs exists;
- That have a baseline cost of energy competitive with other front runner devices; and
- That have potential for cost savings in installation, operation and maintenance strategies.
Device developers selected for the Strand C activity will benefit by receiving:
- Independent engineering analysis of current offshore operations strategies or key parts within them;
- Engineering analysis to advance the developers’ offshore operations strategies with a focus on cost minimisation;
- Development of associated technologies in the context of the overall offshore operations strategy
- Reports written for an investor audience to help justify cases for financing/investment for moving from the prototype testing phase to development of a commercial wave or tidal farm.
