EC 6th Framework Programme

EC Energy and Transport
The European Commission (EC) Directorate for Energy and Transport is responsible for policy and the promotion of sustainable development in these areas.

EC Environment
The European Commission (EC) Directorate for Environment is responsible for policy relating to the protection of the environment and the promotion of sustainable development of the environment.

EUREKA
EUREKA is a framework through which industry and research institutes from 31 countries and the European Union develop and exploit the technologies crucial to global competitiveness and a better quality of life.

European Environment Information and Observation Network (EIONET)
Collects data, information and knowledge on the state of the environment for the European Environment Agency.

European Investment Bank (EIB)
The EIB is the European Union's long-term lending institution. Its objectives include protecting the environment and attaining Community energy policy objectives. The EIB also supports the Union's co-operation and development aid policies to countries outside the Union.

European Investment Fund (EIF)
The European Investment Fund (EIF) was created in 1994. It is the specialised financial institution of the European Union for the support of the creation, growth and development of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). It intervenes through venture capital and guarantee instruments.

INTERREG III
Interreg III is a Community initiative which aims to stimulate interregional cooperation in the EU between 2000-06. It is financed under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)

SAVE II Programme
The SAVE Programme is the only Union-wide programme dedicated exclusively to promoting energy efficiency and encouraging energy-saving behaviour in industry, commerce and the domestic sector through policy measures, information, studies and pilot actions and the creation of local and regional energy management agencies.

European Climate Change Programme (ECCP)
European Climate Change Programme (ECCP), goal is to identify and develop all the necessary elements of an EU strategy to implement the Kyoto Protocol. Taking a 'twin-track' approach, the ECCP is preparing a range of additional EU-level policies and measures to cut greenhouse gas emissions as well as an emissions trading scheme that could start operating within the EU by 2005.

The European Environment Agency (EEA)
An agency set up by the European Union which provides objective, reliable and comprehensive information relevant to the protection and improvement of the environment. The Agency co-ordinates the information retrieval network EIONET.
