Festival Place is Hampshire’s flagship regional shopping centre. Keen to improve its energy efficiency, the organisation contacted the Carbon Trust for advice and received an energy survey, which identified potential savings of more than 18 per cent.
Festival Place, based in Basingstoke town centre is Hampshire’s flagship regional shopping centre, with 165 retailers, 28 restaurants, a multiplex cinema, library, sports centre and numerous bars and cafes. The Carbon Trust’s energy survey provided the management team with strategic and tactical suggestions that, if implemented, could cut the company’s energy costs by more than 18 per cent.
Recommendations included:
- Investigating the potential for roof-mounted renewable energy systems, such as solar panels
- Fitting control settings to the lighting systems throughout the main shopping centre
- Fitting control settings to the lighting systems in the loading areas
- Fitting daylight control settings and sub-metering to the car park lighting system
The Festival Place management team saw the benefits of the Carbon Trust’s advice and have been quick to implement a number of their suggestions.
Gary Cooper, Operations Manager at Festival Place said, “Despite being recently refurbished and extended, we felt that there might be scope for significant improvement in our energy efficiency, so we contacted the Carbon Trust. The results far exceeded what we thought. The Carbon Trust’s energy survey provided the management team with strategic and tactical recommendations which have led to energy and cost savings. The survey was especially useful in helping us prioritise actions. As a result we’ve been able to cut carbon dioxide emissions, which reflects very well on everyone here.”
