Offshore wind debate

The greatest engineering challenge of the decade. But will the UK get the benefit?

The UK has set itself an ambitious renewables target which, if successful, will see the country generating 25% of its electricity needs from this offshore wind. To meet this target, we will need to deploy offshore wind energy on an unprecedented scale. To support this, the Carbon Trust, is running one of the largest collaborative programmes of innovation in offshore wind energy in Europe to reduce costs and speed up deployment.

In February 2010 the Carbon Trust, in association with the BWEA, held a lively debate on this subject and provided an opportunity for industry stakeholders, trade bodies, NGOs and senior representatives from the offshore wind and energy sectors to come together to explore the potential opportunities and challenges for industry in the UK.
