Process Heating and Drying

Heat Recovery

Consider using waste heat from the process to reduce energy consumption - either by reuse in the process itself, or to meet other heating needs such as space heating. There are several options that could be explored. However, a thorough assessment should be made as to their cost and suitability before implementing or purchasing.
  • Consider pre-heating the water
An economiser can be used to transfer heat from hot flue gas from a boiler to the water being fed into the boiler.
  • Consider pre–heating the combustion air
Waste gases from furnaces can be used to provide heat via a heat exchanger, and so reduce energy use in the furnace.
  • Consider using steam condensate
Where possible, consider returning hot condensate to the boiler, via pipework, as this will save energy and conserve water.

At least 40% of industrial energy use in the UK is directly used in process heating.
