Energy Management

Getting Commitment

It is important that senior managers are involved and committed.

  • Your energy management policy should contain a statement of commitment from senior management.
  • Find out about your stakeholders - are they interested in your organisation's environmental performance.
  • The whole organisation has to be seen to be taking the energy management programme seriously in order for it to be effective.
  • Make someone responsible for energy in the workplace. This should be a senior manager or a member of staff supported by senior management.
  • Provide senior management with an understanding of the benefits that are possible through implementing a company energy strategy.
  • Draw up an action plan containing no-cost and low-cost measures that will accrue immediate savings and will help convince management of the longer-term benefits. (See our Action Plan Tool.)
