Compressed Air

Good Maintenance

A well-maintained compressed air system needs less energy to run.

  • Have compressor units regularly serviced.
  • Keep compressor coolers, radiators and ventilation grilles clean and clear, this will minimise compressor power use.
  • Replace any worn or poorly lubricated parts, e.g. bearings or leaking seals, as the motor will be working harder to compress air if the unit is in poor condition.
  • Change filter elements regularly as blocked filters can restrict the air flow into a compressor increasing the power needed to run it.
  • Check that any condensate collection system is working correctly and that there is no constant bleed of air.
  • Remove or isolate any unused pipework.
  • Check your compressor is the right size as compressing more air than you need is wasteful. You can find out your maximum compressed air demand by running all your air-powered tools and equipment at the same time and noting the drop in air pressure.
