Gas and electricity & smart metering

Smart metering is new technology to provide relatively low cost meters that can be read automatically and which output half hourly consumption data. The Carbon Trust’s smart metering trial shows that SMEs can make significant energy savings through deploying smart meters and using the data for energy management.
 
Smart metering is suitable for smaller electricity sites which currently have non-half-hourly meters, and for gas sites with manually read meters.

Smart metering is not yet widely available – ask your supplier about the services they provide. Several other types of company also offer smart metering services:

  • Data collectors
