Walk-round Survey

Keep your eyes out for savings

The quickest way to reduce your carbon footprint is save energy, so it’s important to understand exactly how it’s being used at the moment.

Taking a walk-round your business will help you identify any energy that is being wasted, and focus on the key areas in which savings can be made. These could include heating, lighting and any machinery that is left on when not being used.

It will also demonstrate your own commitment to reducing carbon emissions, and encourage employees to follow your example.

We have two publications to help you undertake a walk-round survey which provide checklists of things to look for:
Be sure to look at things from all angles
It’s important to do several walks round, at various times of the day, so you can check whether timers need to be changed. And you should repeat the exercise at different points during the year, to check whether the controls need adjusting.

It’s also a good idea to include employees in the walk-round. They will know where energy is being wasted and help to spot opportunities. It will also make them feel part of the process right from the beginning.

Don’t forget your checklist!
Using a checklist as you walk round will make sure you don’t forget anything.

Our publications above provide checklists to help you get started. They will help you ask the right questions and look for any potential opportunities to save energy.

As you complete your walk-round, you can add to our list and create one that fits exactly with your own premises.
