Exclusions to funding
Please note: Funding from the Scottish Government to support Applied Research Open Call applications from institutions or organisations based in Scotland is fully committed for the 2009/2010 financial year. If you are based in Scotland and considering making an application you should first contact the Carbon Trust’s Scotland office by e-mailing scotlandoffice@carbontrust.co.uk, to notify us of your interest and to discuss the possibilities for funding in 2010/2011 or beyond.
The Carbon Trust cannot fund projects that are involved in:
- ‘Blue sky’ research
- Fundamental research
- Training and information dissemination
- Installing readily available technology
- Developing a business, rather than a technology
- Any illegal activities
What we don’t fund:
- Proposals not submitted through our online application process
- Projects that do not meet our aims
- Requests for ongoing support of activities
- An endorsement of products or services
- Training and information dissemination
- Projects to install readily available technology
- Projects where we are not material, distinctive or additional
- Ideas that are not founded on sound scientific principles
Please note – we also cannot offer funding for retrospective claims. Nor can we offer any support that does not comply with R&D Framework State Aid.
Improve your chances of qualifying
We judge every application on its merits, but there is some basic advice that we can offer on a number of issues:
- Funding requested
We give preference to applicants who ask for the minimum amount of funding they need to make their project viable.
- Project budget
Projects with a total value of less than £50,000 are unlikely to be cost effective. They are also unlikely to result in significant progress in the commercialisation of technology.
- Collaborative projects
We encourage technology providers and exploiters (end-users) to work together where this is likely to lead to the more effective commercialisation of technology.
- Investment
We expect you to have leveraged a high proportion of non-Carbon Trust funds. We would also want those who stand to directly benefit from the work to contribute to its funding.
