What is being offered?
When a call-for-proposals is open you can apply for a grant of up to £500,000* towards the cost of your project. A minimum 40% match funding is required, subject to State Aid legislation. The maximum Applied Research grant duration for a project is three years.

Any university, business, public sector or voluntary organisation may apply for a grant.
What kind of projects are eligible?
Your project must be innovative, have the potential to realise significant carbon dioxide savings for the UK, be on the path towards commercialisation, be well managed and provide demonstrative benefit to the UK.

What is the application process?
We operate a two stage competitive process. You must register, download the application form and submit your application whilst the call is open. We cannot give advise on any ideas that are not submitted through this system.
How do I apply?
Do I have to repay my grant?
No, there is no requirement to repay the grant. However, if capital equipment is purchased as part of the project, or prototypes are developed, when the project ends the equipment must not be used for commercial purposes. If the equipment is sold, or generates income there is a requirement to repay the grant received to purchase these items. This requirement is necessary to comply with EU State Aid legislation.
Can I receive more than one form of Carbon Trust support?
Yes you can. However the products exist discretely and therefore must be applied for separately.
