How do I apply? 

Only applications submitted through our online process will be considered. All applications are assessed by independent, external assessors. The final decision rests with the Carbon Trust Board and is not subject to appeal.

Competition for funding is intense (only 10% get through the first round and 50% through the second) - proposals that make a strong case against all of the selection criteria have the best chance of success.

All information disclosed to the Carbon Trust is treated confidentially and not disclosed to any third parties other than external assessors who are bound by confidentiality contracts.

 
 


Download and complete an application form when a call for proposals is open (5-6 weeks). Guidance is provided.

We evaluate your application (3–4 weeks).

We will send you a proposal template to complete (~9 weeks). You must include a full project plan and cost schedule. Support will be available to help you complete the template..

We evaluate your proposal (4-5 weeks).
  • Progress (~50%)
  • Reject (~50%)

If we offer you a grant, you must sign a grant contract grant contract within three months. The contract must be signed by all project partners and the terms and conditions are principally non-negotiable.

A project supervisor will contact you on a regular basis to track your progress and help you demonstrate that you are delivering the work detailed in the contract.

Grant payments will be made in receipt of evidence of work done. A milestone report must be submitted to us for every grant payment claim made. We will work with you to add value during a project, through such activities as:

Other useful information

  • Funding from the Scottish Government to support Applied Research Open Call applications from institutions or organisations based in Scotland is now fully committed for the 2009/2010 financial year. If you are based in Scotland and considering making an application you should first contact the Carbon Trust’s Scotland office by e-mailing scotlandoffice@carbontrust.co.uk, to notify us of your interest and to discuss the possibilities for funding in 2009/2010 or beyond.
  • Independent, external assessors help inform our decisions and selection. The final decision rests with the Carbon Trust Board and is not subject to appeal.
  • To date all of our calls have been substantially over-subscribed and competition has been intense. Only those proposals that make a strong case against all of the selection criteria have the prospect of progressing to the next stage in the process.
  • The Carbon Trust may award grants to businesses that compete with each other. However, we are always careful to ensure that information disclosed in-confidence is treated sensitively and not disclosed to any third parties. All external assessors are under contract with us and thus bound by confidentiality.
