Strand B: Device component projects
There are key components inside current marine energy devices that have the most impact on marine energy’s current costs. The same components are also likely to be crucial to the cost-effectiveness of any new devices which might be developed by Marine Energy Accelerator - strand A or any other initiative. * These components are:
- Wave
Structural materials; Powertrain; Mooring
- Tidal
Powertrain; Rotors; Structural materials
We have awarded grants of up to £250k to accelerate the development of these enabling technologies. If successful, any new technology could reach the market within 3-5 years. All project teams involve both:
- Marine energy experts
- Organisations from outside the marine energy industry
