New buildings

As part of Stream 2B of the Low Carbon Buildings Programme, 23 large projects were awarded funding from Department for Energy and Climate Change to install a range of renewable energy systems. To be eligible for grant funding, each site made a commitment to reduce the overall carbon emissions of the building below the regulatory minimum.

The Carbon Trust, through specialist consultants, worked closely with each site to provide guidance on the low carbon measures, monitor the performance and capture important insights into the highs and lows of developing low carbon buildings.

Case Studies

As part of the Low Carbon Buildings Programme, the Carbon Trust has created a series of video case studies.

The projects

The successful projects cover a wide range of building types: from high-rise flats in Newcastle heated by burning wood pellets to a renovated hydro power scheme in Oxfordshire.
