Prioritising Resources
Prioritising Resources
The Carbon Trust uses a rigorous process to identify, prioritise and invest in low carbon technologies.
Technology Prioritisation:
We start by analysing the full range of low carbon technology areas to assess the potential carbon savings and economic benefits associated with each. From this we identify the highest priority technology areas.
Identifying Opportunities:
Within these prioritised technology areas we carry out detailed studies to identify major barriers and opportunities to accelerate progress. This involves working closely with relevant experts across academia and industry.
Opportunity Prioritisation:
Next we short-list the opportunities and prioritise those where it is clear that Carbon Trust involvement can have a transformational impact. This includes reviewing other related UK and international activities.
Industry Engagement:
Having prioritised a particular opportunity, we engage with key academic and industrial players to bring forward specific proposals in that area. We then carry out detailed technical and commercial assessments and select the most promising projects to take forward.
Investment Decision:
The final step is to agree detailed work plans, finalise commercial terms and make the investment. Projects are then reviewed throughout their life to ensure they are successful and achieve the intended impact
