AM&T, AMT Automatic Monitoring and Targeting
- meter system incorporating advanced meters, communications system and analysis tools to allow monitoring and targeting to take place. Sometimes also written as Advanced Metering and Targeting or Advanced Metering Technology

AMR Automatic Meter Reading
- remote reading of a meter using GSM, phone or other communications technology

Advanced Meter any meter capable of recording interval data and communicating the reading by a 'pulse output'

Code 5 meter Statutory meter for use in Half Hourly electricity market

Fiscal Meter Meter used to record consumption for billing purposes

HH Half Hourly
- meters recording data on a half hourly basis

MM&T Metering, Monitoring and Targeting
- the process of metering and then monitoring consumption and setting targets

MPAN Meter Point Administration Number
- unique identifier of the point of supply and associated meter

nHH non Half Hourly
- meters recording consumption only with no time component

Primary Meter Meter used to record consumption for billing purposes

Profile Statistical construct used to estimate consumption where actual time series consumption is not measured (i.e. in nHH market)

Pulse output Function of a meter which allows the consumption data to be transmitted externally via a 'pulsed' message

Secondary Meter Meter used to record consumption for purposes other than billing - e.g. energy management. Installed on customers property - i.e. after the primary meter so not on the distribution companies network

Sub-meter Meter used to record the consumption within a particular area of a building or an a particular point of use, rather than at the point of supply
