Online benchmarking tools

Online tools to help you benchmark your organisation’s energy consumption and/or efficiency:

Calculate the energy performance of a building periodically, such as once a year, and compare it against benchmarks for similar buildings within the Government's Estate.

Calculate a benchmark based on the type of office space, number of workstations and standard occupancy.  You can also benchmark against more specific building-criteria, including: working hours, catering, vending and IT equipment.

Compare your school’s energy use against the typical energy consumption for UK schools. Also provides useful advice on how to reduce energy consumption and costs.  Note - Schools can use this tool to compare against typical benchmark data, but the full version is only accessible to Local Education Authorities Officers.

This tool helps you benchmark your sports centre by taking you through a series of simple stages. Benchmarks have been established for seven different types of centre. Energy use is compared per unit of floor area, so can be applied to different sizes of centre.

This Excel tool allows you to compare the energy performance of buildings on your estate to national yardsticks for Higher and Further Education Institutes. The tool can be used for single buildings, multiple buildings within a campus or multiple buildings across an entire estate.

CarbonBuzz offers a graphical interface to benchmark and track the energy consumption of buildings from initial design stages through to operation. It allows users to include the likely impact of user behaviour in different building types.
