UK Emissions Trading Scheme The Government has just launched a consultation on measures to incentivise energy efficiency in large non-energy intensive businesses and the public sector. One of the main options under consideration is a new mandatory emissions trading scheme which would cover around 5000 organisations, from retailers to local authorities, with total electricity consumption over 3,000MWh/yr, or an energy bill of over 250k.
If this affects your business you can find further details on the scheme and consultation, which closes on 31 January 2007 at www.defra.gov.uk/corporate/consult/carbon-emissions/index.htm.
