The Carbon Trust Environmental Policy

Our mission is to accelerate the move to a low carbon economy. We do this by being a catalyst for low carbon enterprise in the following areas:

• Carbon Trust Insights through which we explain the issues and opportunities surrounding climate change and carbon reduction;
• Carbon Trust Solutions through which we deliver practical solutions to businesses and the public sector for cutting carbon emissions;
• Carbon Trust Innovations through which we help develop commercially promising low carbon technologies;
• Carbon Trust Enterprises through which we create new low carbon businesses; and
• Carbon Trust Investments through which we finance low carbon enterprises that demonstrate commercial potential.

The Carbon Trust is a key element of the UK’s Climate Change Programme. We have operations all over UK with offices in London, Cardiff, East Kilbride, Belfast and a customer centre based in Eynsham, Oxfordshire.

Our most significant impact is to help businesses and public sector organisations reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and to act as a catalyst to accelerate the move to a low carbon economy. We recognise that in pursuing these objectives we can impact the environment. Our most significant adverse environmental impacts are:

• Carbon dioxide emissions to the atmosphere from the use of fossil fuel based energy for our offices;
• Greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere from the use of fossil fuels for our business transport requirements;
• Production of waste in the office; and
• Indirectly, the environmental impact of our contractors, suppliers and consultants delivering services on our behalf.

Our commitments

We are committed to continuously improve our environmental performance and prevent pollution by:

• Complying with relevant legislation, regulations and other relevant requirements;
• Implementing systems that meet the requirements of ISO14001 as a certified environmental management system;
• Setting realistic objectives and targets for each of our most significant environmental impacts;
• Minimising our energy consumption and encouraging the use of less polluting forms of transport whenever possible;
• Influencing business and public sector organisations to take action on climate change;
• Minimising the amount of waste produce through reduction, recovery and recycling;
• Training all employees on environmental issues;
• Communicating our Environmental Policy to employees, suppliers, contractors and other stakeholders and promoting environmentally sensitive behaviour;
• Regularly reviewing our environmental management system; and
• Reporting our environmental performance in our Annual Report.
