What is the Carbon Trust?

Our aim is to accelerate the transition to a low carbon economy by helping organisations reduce their carbon emissions and developing commercial low carbon technologies.

Our position, independent of business and government, enables us to deliver cost effective carbon emission reductions, provide analysis and insight to help drive the transition to a low carbon economy and influence the climate change debate.

What do we do?
We work with business and the public sector helping them to reduce their carbon emissions. We also support the development of a UK-based industry sector to capture the economic benefits of low carbon technologies. We use our unique experience and depth of knowledge on climate change issues to promote the commercial opportunities available and to encourage a step change in organisations’ response to them.

We have three areas of activity.  We help organisations:

  1. To reduce carbon emissions — we promote and advise on the use of existing technologies to reduce carbon emissions through improved energy efficiency (often identifying 20-30% savings in energy costs) and the broader strategic issues of carbon management. Businesses can also take advantage of financial incentive schemes to help invest in the necessary technology;

  2. Develop low carbon technologies — we identify, invest in and support the development of innovative, energy efficient and low carbon technologies across all sectors; and

  3. To respond to climate change — we encourage changes in attitudes, behaviour and business processes by informing business, government and investors on how they can most effectively respond to climate change.
