Short Description
The main task of the Finance Assistant is to provide administrative support to the Head of Finance and the Financial Accountant, particularly in respect of inputting data (primarily supplier invoices) into the finance system, but also to assist with any other finance related work. The post holder will also be required to assist with other administrative duties outside the Finance department.

Purpose and scope of the role (to include management and budgetary responsibility):
The main task of the Finance Assistant is to provide administrative support to the Head of Finance and the Financial Accountant, particularly in respect of inputting data (primarily supplier invoices) into the finance system, but also to assist with any other finance related work. The post holder will also be required to assist with other administrative duties outside the Finance department.

The Carbon Trust processes £56m value of invoices per annum, approx 8,500 invoices per year, and approx 8,000 payments per year.  The role involves providing support to external offices and capturing their invoices and ensuring completeness of invoice trail.

Invoices are coded with a 22 digit account code, and the nature of the Carbon Trust’s core business is such that it is essential that invoices are correctly coded.  There is a premium required for accuracy and attention to detail.

Main duties and responsibilities:
• Working with Carbon Trust staff and external support to scope out and develop R&D projects across the low carbon space.  We are currently developing programmes in the areas of bioenergy, fuel cell and building materials.
• Manage discrete projects including leading procurement processes, managing the selection process, negotiate appropriate (commercial) frameworks, and then drive the resulting project forward.  Individual project spend may be up to £10m.
• Communicate key insights to sector players, policy makers etc
• Help to ensure that the Carbon Trust effectively screens approaches to it for funding.
• Lead problem solving effort on assigned projects to draw out key technology, commercial and policy insights.
• Feed into Carbon Trust business development and commercial activity in terms of ideas generation and evaluation.
• Be an active member of the Innovations Business area and support other functions across the organisation.

Qualifications and experience (required/desired):
• Requires ATT.
• Experience of accounts payable/purchase ledger work, preferably on a Windows style company accounting system (Exchequer, Enterprise, Pegasus, Access) in small/medium company
• Comfortable with Windows PC technology (Word, Excel)
