Environmental policy

We are committed to continuously improve our environmental performance.

Our mission

The mission of the Carbon Trust is to accelerate the move to a low carbon economy.

  • We cut carbon now by providing business and the public sector with expert advice, finance and accreditation and by stimulating demand for low carbon products and services.
  • We cut future carbon emissions by developing new low carbon technologies through project funding and management, investment and collaboration and by identifying market failures and practical ways to overcome them.

We have operations throughout the UK, managed from offices in London, Cardiff, East Kilbride and Belfast. We also operate offices in China and the USA.

Our impacts

Our most significant impact is to help businesses and public sector organisations reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and to act as a catalyst to accelerate the move to a low carbon economy. We recognise that in pursuing these objectives we can impact the environment. Our most significant adverse environmental impacts are:

  • Carbon dioxide emissions to the atmosphere from the use of fossil fuel based energy and consumption of electricity in our offices;
  • Greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere from the use of fossil fuels for our business transport requirements;
  • Production of waste in the office; and
  • Indirectly, the environmental impact of our contractors, suppliers and consultants.

Our commitments

We are committed to continuously improve our environmental performance and prevent pollution by:

  • Complying with relevant legislation, regulations and other relevant requirements;
  • Implementing systems that meet the requirements of ISO14001 as a certified environmental management system;
  • Setting realistic objectives and targets for each of our most significant environmental impacts;
  • Minimising our carbon emissions from energy consumption and travel, both within the UK and internationally;
  • Influencing business and public sector organisations to take a leadership role in carbon emission reduction;
  • Minimising the amount of waste through reduction, recovery and recycling;
  • Training all employees on environmental issues;
  • Influencing our supply chain by communicating our Environmental Policy and promoting environmentally sensitive approaches by our, suppliers and contractors;
  • Regularly reviewing our environmental management system; and
  • Reporting our environmental performance in our Annual Report.
