Carbon Trust Enterprises aims to create valuable new low carbon businesses. Through its portfolio of new and existing ventures, Carbon Trust Enterprises seeks to:

  • break down existing barriers to development within the low carbon market;
  • prove the commercial viability of low carbon markets in order to stimulate their long term growth;
  • take advantage of the compelling opportunities that the transition to a low carbon economy is creating; and
  • provide commercialisation capabilities and skills to the rest of the Carbon Trust.
 
 

The Enterprises Journey – how do we create valuable low carbon businesses?

Carbon Trust Enterprises specialises in carrying venture concepts through each stage of the commercialisation process:

  1. Idea Generation and Concept Development: We use market analysis, and internal and external networks to identify nascent markets that have the potential to support exciting new venture opportunities. We screen, test and structure these early ideas to determine their viability, and develop detailed business cases for those concepts which are suitable for further development. 
  2. Building the Team: We identify the expertise and resources that the business needs and recruit a high calibre team that can make the venture succeed. 
  3. Attracting Investment: Where appropriate, we will seek to attract financial and strategic partners who will help us to grow and support the fledgling business.
  4. Management Support: Once we have launched the new venture, we continue to provide ongoing management support to help the business grow and develop as planned. 
  5. Value Realisation: Once the company and/or the market is established, we will seek to realise value from the venture portfolio as appropriate. This realisation may be in various forms including a partial or complete exit from the company.

  • Partnerships for Renewables
    Partnerships for Renewables is the leading developer of onshore wind generation for public sector bodies in the UK, and is currently jointly owned by CTEL and HSBC.
  • Insource Energy
    Insource Energy is an energy and waste management business which was set up by CTEL in 2006 and is now jointly owned by CTEL and Scottish and Southern Energy Plc.
  • The Carbon Trust Footprinting Company
    The Carbon Trust Footprinting Company is a world leader in product carbon footprinting, helping businesses to measure, reduce and communicate the carbon footprint of their products and services.
  • The Carbon Trust Standard Company
    The Carbon Trust Standard Company is the UK’s leading emission reduction recognition scheme which enables organisations to measure, manage and reduce their company carbon footprints.   
  • Solar Press
    Solar Press is an advanced photovoltaic technology company which seeks to produce low cost, organic photovoltaic cells for solar energy generation.
