Partnerships for Renewables

Partnerships for Renewables works exclusively with the public sector to develop and manage onsite renewable energy projects.

The public sector, ranging from Local Authorities, to NHS Trusts, Universities and Central Government Organisations, owns around 10% of the land in the UK, covering over one million hectares of land. Partnerships for Renewables was set up by Carbon Trust Enterprises in 2006, after it spotted that  only a tiny proportion of this public sector land is currently being used to generate renewable energy. The company, now owned jointly by CTEL and HSBC, has since become a trusted partner for public sector customers, helping them to put their underused land to better use by working with them to plan, develop, construct and operate wind and other renewable energy projects.

Partnerships for Renewables is aiming to deliver 500 megawatts of renewable electricity over the next 5-8 years on public sector land. This is enough to power the houses of Exeter, Oxford, Norwich and Newcastle combined; more than 250,000 houses at zero carbon cost to the environment.
