Carbon Trust response to Energy White Paper

23 May 2007

Commenting on the Energy White Paper announced today, Tom Delay, Chief Executive of the Carbon Trust, said:

“The decisions the UK takes today on energy policy will be critical if we are to meet our long term carbon reduction targets. The Energy White Paper has much in it that should be welcomed, not least the creation of a new carbon trading scheme for large companies and the redesign of the renewables obligation that should ensure that the UK’s vast offshore wind resource stands a strong chance of being developed over the next ten to fifteen years. Both of these initiatives offer significant carbon reduction opportunities out to 2020 and are vital in the drive towards a low carbon economy.

“The news that businesses will obtain access to the latest metering technology is also a major step forward to drive through energy efficiency savings, given the recent work by the Carbon Trust which has identified significant carbon and money savings from a mass roll out to business of advanced metering.”
