David Cameron MP visits Carbon Trust centre to see carbon reduction in action in own constituency.

David Cameron visits the Carbon Trust Customer CentreThe Carbon Trust today celebrates one year of providing advice and support on cutting carbon emissions to businesses across the UK, through its dedicated carbon advice centre for business – the only one of its kind in Europe. Yesterday, David Cameron visited the carbon advice centre in Eynsham, Oxon – within his constituency of Witney - to see what’s on offer for a business that wants to cut its carbon footprint.

Since opening its doors in February 2006, the carbon advice centre has helped thousands of UK businesses identify potential savings of some 800,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide through the work of its telephone account managers. This is equivalent to the average annual carbon footprints of 72,000 individuals - the order of the total annual emissions of all eligible voters in the Witney constituency.

In the last 12 months, the Carbon Trust advice centre team has dealt with over 35,000 phone calls and 5,000 emails from businesses of all sizes and sectors wanting to take action to cut their carbon footprint. It has also commissioned more than 3,000 free energy-saving site surveys for businesses with an annual energy bill of more than £50,000.

Tom Delay, Chief Executive of the Carbon Trust, said:
“Everything we do or buy has a carbon impact and it is clear that businesses want to take action to help tackle climate change. Our dedicated advice centre is the only one in Europe and is at the front line of cutting carbon emissions amongst businesses. More than 35,000 businesses called us over the last year – evidence of the huge demand for practical, straight-forward advice on how to cut costs and carbon.”

The Carbon Trust’s advice centre for business provides a range of services depending on company size and energy bill, including:

  • Free, expert support and information on cutting carbon emissions via the Carbon Trust advice line: 0800 085 2005
  • Energy-saving site surveys for organisations with an annual energy bill of over £50,000 across all sites
  • Account management of key customer relationships to deliver implementation of carbon savings advice and provide detailed technical support.

The carbon advice centre is a significant local employer, with more than 60 per cent of the centre’s 33-strong team living in the Witney constituency.
