The Carbon Trust welcomes findings of Stern Review

Tom Delay, the chief executive of the Carbon Trust, welcomed today’s publication of the Stern Review, in particular the focus on the significant opportunities presented by tackling climate change and moving towards a low carbon economy in the UK.

“This report nails the myth propagated by climate sceptics that tackling climate change is bad for the economy and a hopeless cause. In fact it represents a huge opportunity for business.

“Today’s findings show that the cost of not taking action now to cut carbon emissions is unthinkable – both from an environmental and financial perspective. The Carbon Trust believes that mitigating climate change presents huge opportunities for the UK economy, whether through building on our leadership in exciting renewables with great potential such as marine, or through making low cost carbon reductions through energy efficiency.

“The Carbon Trust supports the three pronged approach to climate change mitigation advocated by Stern, of carbon pricing, financial support to fast-track the commercialisation of new low carbon technologies, combined with regulation and information to implement cost-effective energy efficiency. We are confident that with the Stern Review’s findings and the collective will of government, business and consumers, we can generate the necessary deep cuts in carbon emissions.”
