Businesses were today urged to view a reduction in energy demand as a priority in the fight against climate change. Speaking at the NEMEX event at Birmingham’s NEC, Dr Garry Felgate, Director of Delivery and External Relations at the Carbon Trust argued that businesses, large or small could benefit financially as a result of reducing energy use and helping to tackle climate change.

“With energy prices still increasing, energy managers have a key role in the front line of a business driving cost savings through reducing energy consumption”, said Dr Felgate. “We know from working with a range of businesses that significant savings can be made simply through low and no cost measures and have seen organisations in the retail and financial services sectors, for example, really starting to take action. The Carbon Trust is here to help companies work out the best way to reduce consumption and help them benefit their bottom line at the same time.”

The Carbon Trust is working with thousands of companies providing advice, energy surveys and interest free loans for the purchase of energy efficient equipment to help businesses reduce energy consumption. Fact sheets and action plans are available on this website and businesses can also call the free helpline (0800 085 2005) for further assistance from Carbon Trust experts. Many businesses have already made savings of up to 20 per cent through implementing low and no cost measures recommended by the Carbon Trust, making a significant impact on the bottom line.
