Carbon Trust boosts support for SMEs

Our latest research shows that ‘lack SME's receive cheque
of time and expertise’ to measure
and reduce carbon emissions is
holding back UK small and
medium businesses from taking their
share of £3 billion worth of potential
energy savings. This is set to
change through our enhanced
range of carbon measurement and
reduction tools, support services
and interest free Energy-Efficiency
Loans scheme.

Innovations in clean energy

We have announced funding for a Sunset
series of new projects as part of a
£3.5 million Marine Energy
Accelerator (MEA).
The aim is to bring forward the commercialisation
of marine energy technology,
a source of energy that could
provide up to 20% of the UK’s
current electricity needs. We have
also unveiled a £5 million research and
development programme to
unlock the potential of organic
photovoltaic (PV) technology,
which aims to make solar energy
cost-effective within ten years.

The initiative is expanding to cover a wider Carbon Label
variety of products and business sectors
with the addition of ten new partners.
These include Tesco, who are working
with us to measure the carbon

and understand the carbon impact of
their weekly shop.

Measure and reduce your organisation's carbon footprint

The Carbon Trust has developed a new support package to help your organisation measure and reduce its carbon emissions. Step one is to find out precisely what a carbon footprint is by downloading ‘Carbon Footprinting – An Introduction for Organisations’. You can also use our online Carbon Calculator to take the first step in understanding your organisation’s basic carbon footprint. And if your annual energy bill is over £50,000, you can apply for a free* Carbon Survey that could help you measure your carbon footprint, reduce your carbon emissions and save you up to 20% in energy costs. For practical advice on carbon footprinting and the specific steps you need to take, you can also attend one of our free interactive workshops.
