The Carbon News survey - what you told us


First, we would like to thank those readers of Carbon News who kindly took the time to complete the survey. Here is a summary of the results of our survey:

 

What you think of Carbon News

Two thirds of you always read our quarterly newsletter. The rest of you occasionally read it.

84% of you find Carbon News relevant to your situation (very relevant 29%; quite relevant 55%). And 79% feel it highlights the things you need to learn more about.

After reading Carbon News you are most likely to visit the website for further information (74%) or forward the newsletter to a colleague (39%).

The subject areas you would most like to see covered in more detail are: energy saving tips (73%), case studies (48%), innovation and technology news (46%) and the Carbon Trust’s products and services (45%).

What you think of carbon emissions, carbon offsetting and carbon labelling

Your businesses are driven by a mix of factors to focus on cutting carbon emissions: energy costs (72%); corporate reputation and social responsibility (65%); environmental issues and climate change (61%).

You are most likely to seek advice on climate change issues via government funded organisations / NGOs (40%), your trade and professional bodies (37%) or consultants and agencies (31%).

You have a high level of awareness of carbon offsetting / being carbon neutral (79%). However, far fewer of you are either involved in it or actively considering it (31%).

Those of you who are involved in carbon offsetting are doing so for broadly the same reasons as those who are cutting carbon emissions in general. Those who are not involved mostly say this is because they do not know enough about it (60%).

Carbon labelling is less well known to you (41%). However, most of you who are aware of it would like to know the carbon footprint of the products that your business purchases (87%). And you believe your customers would like to know the carbon footprint of the products they buy from you (66%).

What you think of the Carbon Trust

A high proportion of you recall reading or hearing about the Carbon Trust in the media in recent months, across broadcast channels – particularly national press (50%) and TV (47%); and narrowcast channels – particularly direct mail (42%).

Over half of you recall reading or hearing about the Carbon Trust online in recent months.

Over half of you have contacted the Carbon Trust recently. Mostly you have done so via the website (71%) but also with significant numbers of you doing so by phone (46%) or face to face (30%).

This contact was rated as Good or Excellent by 86% of those who used the website, by 88% of those who telephoned and by 92% of those who spoke to us in person.

You can contact the Carbon Trust in a variety ways:


The two areas that you were most likely to associate the Carbon Trust with was energy efficiency (76%) and energy management (72%) issues, followed by carbon management (47%).
